Best River-View and City-Centre Hotels in Rajahmundry for Families and Pilgrims

by Eoin

Initially, I did not expect my trip to Rajahmundry would be exciting. I arrived expecting a quiet temple town, and what I found instead was a city that moves at its own pace, anchored entirely by the Godavari. Standing at the ghats on my first morning, watching the river stretch endlessly into the mist, I thought to myself that this place deserves far more credit than it gets. But before you experience any of that magic, it is important to choose the right accommodation. I learned a few things during my stay that I wish someone had told me earlier.

Why Where You Stay in Rajahmundry Changes Everything?

The city has two completely different energies: the buzzing, commercial city centre and the calm, almost meditative riverside belt near the Godavari ghats. Get the location wrong and you might spend more time in the auto-rickshaw that expected. I stayed centrally and walked to the ghats every morning before breakfast, and that single decision shaped my entire experience of the city.

The Hotels I Would Actually Recommend

Godavari Grand Hotel

I passed the Godavari Grand before I checked in and thought it looked way nicer than I thought. The inside of the rooms were spacious and comfortable, but also for taking a rest. The property’s complimentary breakfast was wholesome and fulfilling. Additionally, the staff also gave me detailed directions on where I could view sunsets. I would recommend this place to families travelling with children or elderly relatives for a well-planned journey.

Haritha Hotel Rajahmundry (APTDC)

Run by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, Haritha is modest in its presentation but delivers something no amount of fancy decor can replicate: a river-facing room with an unobstructed view of the Godavari. I also spoke to a family of pilgrims at the property who told me they had been coming here for three consecutive years specifically for those rooms. During Pushkaram or major festival seasons, this place fills up fast. Book early, without exception.

Hotel Rajdhani

This is a well-run city-centre hotel that does exactly what it promises. I stayed nearby and ate at a restaurant that the Rajdhani staff had recommended to guests, which told me everything about how invested they are in the visitor experience. The location puts you close to the Dowleswaram Barrage, which I visited at dusk for a truly memorable evening.

Lotus Hotels and Resorts

I stopped in at this hotel after a very busy morning at the Ganges River, and was surprised to find it to be pleasantly relaxing. The hotel is located away from the city noise, and the room configuration is practical for families travelling together. If you are looking for a hotel that allows you to unwind after a long day of sightseeing, this is the place for you.

What I Would Tell You Before You Book Any Hotels in Rajahmundry?

River-view rooms disappear between October and February. As the weather turns pleasant, the pilgrim footfall rises sharply. I would suggest booking three to four weeks ahead during that window to secure your preferred times and room rates.

If You Are Travelling as a Family

Stay central. The auto-rickshaw network between the city centre and the ghats is cheap, frequent, and perfectly manageable even with young children or elderly family members.

If You Are Coming as a Pilgrim

Call the hotel directly before booking and ask about early check-in. Pre-dawn rituals are common here, and a good property will sort this out without fuss. The ones I mentioned above generally will.

My Honest Takeaway

Rajahmundry does not perform for visitors. It simply exists, entirely on its own terms, and rewards travellers who come prepared. The hotels in Rajahmundry that I stayed at or visited reflect that same character: grounded, warm, and genuinely useful. Sort your accommodation thoughtfully, and the Godavari handles the rest.
